Statement of Faith

We Believe:

• In the Bible as the Divinely inspired Word of God, the revelation of His mind and will to man, our infallible, all sufficient guide for salvation for the Christian life. {2 Tim.3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21}.

• In one God, the creator of all, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

• In the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is true God and true man, begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and that He has a perfect and sinless humanity. {John 1:1, Phil. 1:6, Matt. 1:23-25, John 3:5}.

• In the total depravity of the nature of man through his fall in the Garden of Eden, and the absolute inability of man to save himself from eternal punishment by his own works.{Gen. 3, Romans 2:23, Eph. 2:8-9}.

• In the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved (1 Thess. 4:17); and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. {Rev. 20:11-15}.

• In the finished work of Christ on the cross of Calvary, through which sacrifice Christ has effected complete and eternal redemption, God setting His seal of approval on the work of Christ by raising Him from among the dead, enthroning Him at His own right hand in Heaven, and that He is the Head of the Church, the Lord of the individual, the High Priest over the house of God, and Advocate in the Family of God.

• In the immediate and eternal salvation of every person who truly believes on Christ and by faith rests on His finished work as the only righteous ground on which a Holy God can forgive his sins.

• That all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour are born again of the Holy Spirit, in dwelt by the Holy Spirit, and by the Holy Spirit baptized into the body of Christ, the church, of which He is the risen and ascended head. {1 Cor.12:12-14, Eph. 1:22-23, Col. 1:18}.

• That the early church met together and continued steadfastly in the Apostle's doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. (Acts 2:42) - God's pattern for the church today.

• In the personal, imminent, and pre-millennial coming of the Lord to the air the rapture (catch up) the church (1 Thess.4:13-17).

• In the revelation of Christ in Glory at His Second Advent to the earth to establish His Kingdom on the earth and to reign in Righteousness. (2 Thess. 1:6-10, Phil. 2:9-11).

Growth

From the outset, the plans were to add a grade each year until the school had reached Grade 12. Each year the enrollment has increased annualy. This year we celerbate that we have 280 + students with 25 faculty, 4 office staff and 1 principal. We are excited to share with everyone that four of our five Graduates are off to various part of the world continuing their education and the fifth one plans to go next year. Their Commencement in May, 2008 was a night to remember.

Because of the tremendous growth of the school, our church family ventured out in faith to construct an additional building in 1997. This building houses five large classrooms each with its own bathroom which is perfect for the younger students. We also built two additional classrooms for the Computer and Science Labs in the summer of 2001. We are planning to expand again with the extension of a separate high school, gymnasium, and other facilities that will better serve the students and the community of Marsh Harbour. We praise the Lord for the way He has led us over the past eleven years, and although we have seen Satan opposing this ministry in various ways, we have also seen the Lord open many doors for us to minister to the students and parents who attend the school.

Our student body is comprised of children from Marsh Harbour, Dundas Town, Murphy Town as well as Hope Town, Man-O-War Cay, and Guana Cay, (these travel each day by Ferry Boat), Green Turtle Cay,Treasure Cay, (about forty-five miles round trip by car) Cooper’s Town and Sandy Point (each about one hundred miles round trip) and other communities inbetween.

Students of Agape come from homes belonging to churches from various denominations and those who have no church affiliation. We realize that we are not only providing a high quality of education, but we are also seeking to lay a strong Biblical foundation on which they can build their lives for the glory of God.

Government

Agape Christian School is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Elders of the assembly on an annual basis. Those serving on the board must be born again believers who are members of Marsh Harbour Gospel Chappel or belonging to an evangelical Bible believing church in the area. There are three members who automatically serve on the board. One member of the assembly's Elders' board, one member of the Deacons' board and the School Administrator (unpaid). In order to function, the school board must have a minimum of five and a maximum of nine members. The principal and staff are answerable to the board who in turn are answerable to the Elders of the assembly.

History

Agape Christian School is a Ministry of the assembly of Marsh Harbour Gospel Chapel. This church has been ministering to Marsh Harbour and the surrounding communities for over forty years.

After a period of steady growth in the seventies and early eighties the assembly was able to secure a five acre piece of property from the Bahamas Government on a Lease-Purchase agreement. In February of 1988 the new chapel complex was started and the church relocated there in June 1989.

Sometime after moving to this new location, there was a growing feeling among several in the church family that the Sunday School wing should be utilized for more than just a few hours on Sunday. Included in this group were educators who were burdened about the assembly entering the education field. After a period of praying, planning and preparing a prospectus, this group met with the leadership of the assembly and subsequently with the entire membership. At this meeting the proposal to start Agape Christian School was approved overwhelmingly.

In September 1994, Agape Christian School commenced with twenty-seven students and three teachers with grades Kindergarten 3 to Grade 4.

Agape Christian School uses the A Beka Book Curriculum from Pensacola Christian College and supplements it with any courses that are required by the Ministry of Education of the Bahamas. At Agape the Bible is taught daily and all students memorize the scriptures. Students also participate in all national examinations and other interschool activities such as Speech Competitions, Spelling Bees and Sporting events.

Most of our staff have at least a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education or the equivalent or have passed the required Pre-school course from the College of the Bahamas.
